Aniket Paudyal

Good afternoon, Chair of this closing ceremony and Secretary-General of TESMUN 2021 Mr.Sarin Kandel, Honorable Chairperson of our School, Madam Sheetal Rana, Honorable Managing Director of our School Mr. Ram Basent, Administrative Incharge Mr. Niraj Bikram Rana, Honorable Principal Mr. Prashant Rajak, Respected teachers, delegates, fellow members of the dais panel, members from the various committees! It is wonderful to address you this afternoon. I am Aniket Paudel, the Chair for UNEP in this Virtual Model United Nations.

I have been to around 4 MUN sessions prior to this. This is the fifth one. The first one was in class 7, where I was a reporter in the UNEP. It was truly one of the best MUN experiences. I was new to the Excelsior and got to witness the charisma of the TESMUN, which only made me more eager to take part in more MUN sessions. The second MUN was in class 8, where I was the delegate of Sher Bahadur Deuba. Some friends still call me “Sherey”. At that time, I enjoyed and learned the MUN procedures in a proper way. I wasn’t the best, but I saw what better could be like. . In the same year, we staged the second one for our Educational Exhibition which is also a signature program of our school. The simulation of the United Nations focused on the national agenda of the MCC. This is still a hot cake in the Nepali political firmament. I was assigned the role of Bhim Rawal. It was more like a fun game than a serious discussion. However, it was still rewarding in terms of the knowledge we got from it. The third one and probably one of the toughest ones was in the RBS MUN- 2021. I was representing a news agency, called Huffington post, in the RBS MUN. I personally felt very pressured, so I used to make a lot of jokes. It ended up me being a comedian who wanted to enjoy and getting a verbal mention. I couldn’t give it my all, but I got over it.

Now for this year, I stand before you as the chair of the UNEP. It was a trust handed to me and I think I tried my best in this regard. This year in the chamber we discussed the topic “Mitigating the socioeconomic impacts of climate change. "We, the dais, chose this topic as it was the most relevant one which we have been learning since middle school. I personally and many experts also believe it’s the biggest threat to humanity. Our committee discussed many aspects in it ranging from renewable resources, air pollution, afforestation, and many more. Further talking about this MUN, Our committee of UNEP has been very fascinating. The research and points of the delegate of the USA, the willpower of the delegate of Qatar, and even the moments where the delegate of Russia got bullied by the whole committee even when he wasn’t at fault. Getting called a bearded Chair, gaining trust from the delegates, imparting knowledge to them about everything I knew. Overall, it’s been an enjoyable session. Everything has been a fun journey. It all comes to an end now, but I wish each and every one of you good luck in your journey. Make sure to enjoy every bit of it, or else your chair will be very angry with you.

Thank you for listening to my speech, now it’s time to announce the awards.
