VOICE OF TES MUN CO-ORDINTOR
"The Excelsior School Model United Nations (TES MUN) is a grand educational activity brought for the overall development of students. All the students take part in the programme as per their assigned roles. The MUN, a simulation of United Nations’ forum discussions, was actually designed to impart some important life skills like debating on the burning issues, defending own ideas, looking at things critically, enabling skills of instant responses and thinking logically. While discussing several burning issues, the students get updated with world politics and humanitarian crisis existing in the world. Participation of the students in such activity actually prepares them for their future by making them aware of where they must be working to have a peaceful world in the days to come. Therefore, TES MUN is a stepping stone for young students to stand as responsible global citizens in the days to come.
The Excelsior School has already celebrated the eighth episode of the Model United Nations Programme that began in the year 2012 as a co-curricular activity. Since the first Model UN conference, it has been continuously organized by the students for the students and now it has been a tradition of our students. Each year the programme is getting bigger and better. Hundreds of students who had been a part of this programme here at the school have shared their positive remarks saying it was a real platform for them to develop their personalities. They share that this programme has actually ignited their imagination that they can do much better than they have been doing. The realization that you can make people think about your points or ideas is the main lesson one has to learn from this programme.
Structurally, the MUN session incorporates both national and international issues. To debate and discuss national agenda and national politics, grade eight students simulate national parliament. Playing the roles of various leaders of different political parties, they express their views and defend their arguments. To debate on the international issues, grade nine students simulate different international committees under the United Nations and discuss the pertaining issues. The issues of human rights, the economic affairs between various nations and their impacts on the other nations, environment pollutions and their impacts with a question of responsibilities in the hand of leaderships are all brought under the scrutiny of their arguments. Likewise, grade ten students will play a leading role as dais, IT and press members including the role of General Secretary. They actually make the event happen by making ninth and eighth graders work.
Now we are preparing for the ninth session of TESMUN. Due to corona pandemics, we are using a virtual platform for the programme. As always, this year too, the organizing committee is doing its best to continue the tradition of an excellent TESMUN. Our dais team has been working assiduously to develop an intellectual debate among the delegates. I hope to see passionate debates among delegates this year."
