The committee of UNEP started with the agenda set on the topic “Mitigating the socio-economic impacts of climate change”. All the delegates who were in the committee appeared to be energetic and exhilarated.

The first GSL was delivered by the delegate of Iraq (Princia Dhakal) to which she was questioned by the delegate of France (Shrawan Ghale). He asked, “What has Iraq done in the last decade to mitigate the socioe-conomic impacts of climate change?” to which the delegate of Iraq responded and the debate continued.

The, the GSLs continued and the moderated caucus on the topic “Renewable energy- A counter to climate change” was raised by the delegate of the USA (Manaswi Pant) on which the delegates had a fruitful discussion.

As they were discussing the moderated caucus, the committee was hit hard by a crisis . The outer islands of Qatar had sunk and Russia’s mistake of nuclear testing was blamed for being responsible for the tsunami that struck Qatar. The delegate of Russia defended saying, “Why does Russia have to get blamed for everything that happens?”

When the update arrived, it was found that it wasn’t Russia’s fault but rather the incompetency of Qatar to handle the issue that led to the quandary. The delegate of Qatar (Dipankar Nepal) said, “We have enough resources to handle the economic upliftment of the people who had exponential damage. We open our hands for any other support.” The delegate of France (Shrawan Ghale) told the whole committee, “As it is said, a friend in need is a friend indeed, the country of France shall dispatch further aid as soon as possible and urges other countries to rush to the aid.”

The committee drew the resolution which got passed with a 100% majority. The formal session ended with some words by the Chair.
